NEW Ironwood NAF Flute – Key of F# – Tuned to 432Hz

Ironwood is an exceptionally hard wood to work with. Because of the density these flutes are quit a bit heavier in weight and the sound that is produced tends to be brighter in our opinion. Ironwood is extremely troublesome to get a really nice finish to as well. But they are beautiful to look at and they play very nice. Because of the difficulty in working with this beautiful wood these flutes are simply more expensive to produce. If I had to describe the look and feel of one of our Ironwood flutes I would say “Simple Elegance”.

This particular flute is a really nice flute and there is still time to add some accents of your choice. Tuned to the Key of F# at 432Hz (True Pitch) this Native American five hole flute is truly pleasing to the ear. This flute is a fairly long flute coming in at 25 inches in length and features a 7/8″ flute bore. The cutting edge is built into the body of the flute and is not an inlay. The flute body features the four winds tuning holes which helped us keep its long sleek shape. The fetish on this flute is made from a piece of Bubinga finished to a high smooth gloss and this fetish is a new style for us.. The fetish is tied on using our hand cut Buffalo leather lace, color is buckskin.

This flute like all of our flutes was hand planed to achieve its signature shape. There are many extra hours in hand sanding to achieve the smooth final finish that makes this such a beautiful piece to hole. Finished with more than 20+ light coats of high gloss lacquer. The inside of the flute bore and slow air chamber have also been sealed with many coats of finish to help prevent moisture absorption. The tonal quality of this flute is in the mid range and it is very easy to play and very forgiving. This flute feels really nice in your hands and the color of this particular piece of Ironwood is almost black in color.

It is rare that we get Ironwood that is so dark in color and consistent in the shades throughout. If you click on any of the pictures above you can view a larger image of this flute. I want to say here that these pictures do not do this flute justice in our opinion. All flutes ship with a hand crafted flute bag to protect the flute. Shipping is in addition to the price of the flute. If you have questions call us at (619) 435-6700 or send us an email at sales@tetonmarketing.com. This flute is available for $325.00 plus shipping. If you would like to see other products we offer including more on our 307 Native American flutes visit our website at www.tetonmarketing.com.

New Port Orford Cedar Flute Special $210 + Shipping

Several times over the past months we have hand crafted a smaller Native American Flute that is greatly suited for carrying with you in your backpack when you hike into the back country. The last NAF flute we made in this size was crafted from a reclaimed piece of Hawaiian Koa and it was really a cool flute and found a home right here in Wyoming. So we decided to make a new one and this time the wood of choice was from a piece of Old Growth Port Orford Cedar.

This flute was crafted from a single piece of wood and the flute is 21 inches overall length and it features a 3/4 inch bore. This is a five hole NAF flute tuned to the key of A at 440Hz and features the Four Winds tuning holes. The cutting edge is crafted from a single piece of inlaid walnut which provides a very nice color contrast between the woods. This flute was tuned at an altitude of 6400 feet and a temperature of approximately 65 degrees. The fetish was crafted from the same stock of wood and it is our Otter styled design. The fetish is attached to the flute body with a single piece of hand cut Buffalo hide lace, black in color.

This flute like all of our flutes was hand planed to achieve its signature shape. Although this flute does not feature any added accents it is a beautiful little flute and it plays beautifully. The body of the flute is finished with more than 20+ light coats of high gloss lacquer. The inside of the flute bore and slow air chamber were also sealed with many coats of finish to help prevent moisture absorption. Small enough to put into most any backpack you can take it on the trail with you, in your car, on your bike… this is a really nice flute.

Port Orford Cedar not only makes for a great sounding flute but as you can see from these pictures it also produces simple elegance. All flutes ship with a hand crafted flute bag to help protect your flute.

Back Packers Special Offer $165 + Shipping

Shipping is in addition to the price of the flute and we prefer to ship our flutes via FEDEX. We do not mass produce these flutes and these backpacker style flutes are truly one of a kind. Each flute is signed by Timothy Jennings, the artist and the key of the flute is imprinted on the body next to the signature.

If you are interested in purchasing the flute please call us at (619) 435-6700 and ask for Tim. If you have question feel free to email us at sales@tetonmarketing.com and put “POC Backpacker Flute” in the subject line of the email. If you prefer you can purchase this flute on Etsy at the following link.

From time to time we like to highlight some of the custom flutes we have made for other customers and sometimes we make one that we just simply love. This is the case about the flute we are highlighting here. This was a custom ordered flute and the original owner lives in Coronado California and this individual wanted a flute that would make a statement in his home. Because of his love for Birds of Prey we designed the flute and fetish you see here. We like this flute so much that we want to offer it as a custom-made to order flute.

This flute is crafted from Old Growth Walnut and currently we have some really nice blanks in stock. The bore in this flute is a tapered, oval-shaped bore and the designer of this is our son Brock Jennings. We call flutes with this type of bore the Brock Jennings Signature flute. A large flute by normal standards this was a low D flute when tuned. We tuned it to 440Hz but you can order one tuned to 432Hz (true pitch) if you prefer. Personally we like the 432Hz flutes as they seem to be more desirable when played by the human ear. But it makes it hard to play with other instruments because of this.

The overall length of this flute when finished was almost 30″ and was a very impressive flute by any standard. The body of the flute featured the Four Winds Tuning Hole and it had 3 oval cabochons that we hand set into the body of the flute. The flute featured our signature “3 Feathers” that hang from the center of the body. The lace on this flute was deer skin but you can order it with hand cut Elk or Buffalo as well. Finished with 20+ light coats of finish and then hand rubbed to a satin sheen.

The bird or fetish represents an eagle or bird of prey and it was made from the same Old Growth Walnut stock. The white base that the bird sits on is also walnut and the entire bird was crafted from a single piece of select stock. Most people who saw this flute finished did not know the base was from the same piece of walnut because of the color differences. This bird takes a while to craft but it is well worth it. Finally we like to hang glass Crow Beads from the ends of the leather accent lace giving the braided lace area a finished look. Overall this is an awesome flute and when ordered you can customize much of it to your liking. But we like this flute just the way it was made!

Award Winning Design

What Does It Cost?…

The short answer is $975.00 plus shipping. The longer answer is that the price could vary depending on changes you make. The price point is certainly higher than our new “307 Flute Line” but our custom flutes are completely hand crafted and made by Award Winning Artist Timothy Jennings and then hand tuned their son Brock Jennings. This flute design was part of the Award Winning Blue Ribbon at the Western Design Conference this summer (2011) held in Jackson Hole Wyoming. The Sonny Tuttle Spirit Award was given to Teton Marketing for the Juried portion of the show. This exact flute was part of nine other flutes that were entered into the show.

One Of A Kind…

Because this is not one of our regular made flutes it truly is a “One Of A Kind” flute. No two flutes with this design are the same. Each one will have subtle differences when complete. The over all finish of this flute is Gallery Quality and when you play it, it will bring a smile to your face. Feel free to browse our website at www.tetonmarketing.com and see if you find something you like. As always if you have questions or your want to discuss this flute for yourself email us at “sales@tetonmarketing.com” and please put in the subject line “Custom Made To Order Eagle Flute”.

Wyoming Made, Made in Jackson Hole…

At a time when “MADE IN THE USA” is practically an anomaly there are still a few small businesses out there trying to create new products and services that can boast the “MADE IN THE USA” title. Wyoming is a state that actually has quite a large number of small entrepreneurs that craft products from their home or small business and sell them to the public both within the borders of Wyoming and abroad. One place that highlights these Wyoming based businesses is the Wyoming Business Council and they list many of these businesses on their website www.wyomingfirst.org.

The Wyoming First Program is a way to identify and showcase great products made in Wyoming. All of the companies listed on this website call Wyoming home and are proud of the quality they represent. Wyoming First provides you with the opportunity to shop and locate products that are made within this state. This post today is no exception. I want to highlight a member of my family that is doing just that – designing and making products for sale right here in Jackson Hole. Blaire joins others here in Jackson that also make and sell their products though retail outlets and their websites.

Blaire Jennings is a college student in her Junior year at CU Boulder in Colorado and she is studying Digital Art, Studio Art and Communications. Blaire has always been a creative soul and she loves painting, shaping pottery, photography, pretty much design of any kind. Over the past year Blaire along with her mother Peyton have created a unique line of hand crafted jewelry all made by hand right here in Jackson Hole. Her latest creation is a line of wooden feather like earrings featuring very high quality sterling silver findings. These whimsical feather like earrings are being marketed under the name “307 Wear” and they are gaining in their popularity with locals and others living outside of the state of Wyoming. ”307 Wear” simply translates into “Wyoming Wear” as the area code of 307 is unique to the state of Wyoming. In addition to earrings Blaire is adding some of her necklace designs and currently has many new ideas under development.

What started out as an idea has started to blossom into a small business opportunity for Blaire and she is starting to make some headway. These earrings are truly unique and one of a kind. They are crafted from woods such as Walnut, Maple, Ironwood, Bubinga and other wood species. Each pair is hand crafted and no two pairs are exactly a like. They retail from $39.00 a pair up to $69.00 a pair depending on the wood species and sterling silver findings. If you would like to find out more about these whimsical feather like earrings check out our website at www.tetonmarketing.com and see what Blaire currently has to offer. Blaire is looking for potential retail outlets that may want to carry some of her designs. She especially would like to find retail outlets here in her home state of Wyoming in addition to all other parts of the U.S.A. If you would like more information about 307 Wear than contact Peyton or Blaire at “sales@tetonmarketing.com” .

This mornings coffee run took me 40 miles north of Jackson into Teton National Park to one of the most photographed places in the United States, Oxbow Bend. Oxbow is just north of Moran Junction about 4 or 5 miles and on this morning it was -15 degrees as I arrived just before dawn. In the summer there is always a multitude of photographers waiting for the sun to bathe the mountains with its warmth. Today I was all alone, with the exception of my father-in-law who made the journey with me.

We arrived as it was still dark and set up for the shots I wanted, some of which I am sharing with you here. As the sun makes its way over the eastern range it begins to bathe the Teton Range with a warm glow. This all happens in about 12-15 minutes so you need to be ready with your camera. Now I am no professional but you would have to try pretty hard to screw this up. Here are a few pics of the Oxbow Bend with Mount Moran in the back ground all taken within minutes of each other. You can see the difference in the shots as to how the sun bathes the mountains and the river. Oh yeh – this is the Snake River for those who do not know this area. Amazing is all I can say. Put this on your bucket list for sure.

On the way back I took a detour and found some of my favorite subjects. I counted over 18 moose this morning all within a few hundred yards of these shots. I almost got stepped on when this big guy came within a few feet of my Jeep. A few feet is no exaggeration! I never tire of seeing these beautiful creatures of nature. They are so unique and awesome to be this close to. If you venture out – be careful because they can hurt you. Enjoy!

Mountain Sheep & Tourists Are Back In Town…

We grabbed our coffee this morning at Pearl Street Bagels and headed for another morning adventure. First let me give props to the girls at Pearl Street Bagels as they are so nice to deal with. They are always friendly, and these girls can crank out the coffee and bagels. On the east side of the Snake River they are our favorite!

As we left the coffee shop we just found ourselves heading out towards Miller’s Butte to see if the mountain sheep had returned. And, yes they have, along with the tourists. It is a very cool thing to be able to travel such a short distance from our home and see so much wildlife. Miller’s Butte for those of you who are not familiar with our town sits on the east side of the National Elk Refuge and you access the road just north-east of the hospital on Broadway.

This morning the fog was hovering over the valley but not too bad – just cold. The trees again had a fresh coating of powdery ice crystals on their branches making it a real Christmas like feel. If you like to take pictures these kinds of mornings make a great background to shoot away. So many opportunities for beautiful shots of the trees loaded with powder and the rivers with a steamy fog hovering over the water. The ice and the river flows squeeze through frozen banks making for some really incredible scenery.

On this morning though it was all about the mountain sheep. The east side of the butte is all rocks and cliffs and the sheep meander around as if they are on flat land. But on some days you will find them right on the road side and this morning was no exception. About a dozen or so sheep traveled from their safety high in the rock to the road side in order to access the grass hiding under the snow. A couple even are so bold as to come right up to your car and they lick the side of the cars for any salts that are deposited from the roads. Pretty cool for sure. They are cautious but not too friendly making sure they keep their distance when someone tries to approach.

On the other side of the road we found dozens of elk just lying around at the base of the pine trees that start about a few hundred yards off the east side of the road. Although I love the elk we decided to focus on the sheep and just sit and watch them interact with the public. The tourists are returning for the holidays and this morning some of them got to see something really special. It never gets old up here as long as you take the time to leave you home and see some of God’s wonders. Enjoy!
